Richard F. Lockey, MD, MS, FAAAAI & USF A/I Program Lectureship and Award

The AAAAI Foundation is honored to announce the Richard F. Lockey, MD MS FAAAAI & University of South Florida Allergy/Immunology (A/I) Program Lectureship and Faculty Development Award. In his 50-plus year career, Dr. Lockey has left an indelible mark on the specialty through his own practice and leading research and his mentorship of the next generation of physicians and investigators.
His most profound area of impact has been as Director of the world-renowned Division of Allergy and Immunology, Department of Internal Medicine, University of South Florida College of Medicine and the James A. Haley Veterans Administration Hospital, Tampa, Florida. The 30-member A/I Division is dedicated to patient care, teaching, research, and treatments and cures for allergic and immunologic diseases and asthma. The Division collaborates with the Division of Allergy and Immunology, Department of Pediatrics, University of South Florida College of Medicine and Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, Tampa and St. Petersburg, Florida, respectively.
Dr. Lockey has authored, coauthored, or edited over 960-plus scientific and review manuscripts, book chapters, webpage articles and recordings, including 21 monographs and 23 books. He has helped train over 100 physician specialists and approximately 55 national and international postgraduate PhDs and MDs in basic and clinical research and medicine, many of whom have assumed leadership positions throughout the world. He is also a gifted clinician who continues to see patients and approaches research, training, and patient care as intertwined components of the same discipline.
He has also served at the highest levels of leadership in the leading organizations within the A/I specialty including President, American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology; Director, American Board of Allergy and Immunology; President, World Allergy Organization; and Vice President of Medical Affairs, Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. He is the recipient of many national and international awards and is most proud to have received the Boy Scouts of America Distinguished Eagle Scout Award in 2018 and the first AAAAI Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023.
He is a man with vision, commitment, and dedication to the advancement of both the A/I specialty and research, the heart of the AAAAI Foundation’s mission. We are honored to name this Lectureship and Faculty Development Award in his honor.
